When you start planning
your wedding, you may decide to center it on a theme. If you
do, you should start jotting down ideas. Your choice of a theme
will affect your decorations, your dress, the attire for the
bridal party and the groom, and the reception.
Before you decide on a theme, you should do
some window shopping to see if you can easily find items to fit
your theme. Planning your wedding takes a lot of time. You do
not want to decide on a theme and when it comes time to
purchase or order items, find they are no longer available or
what is available is not what you had in mind.
Your dress, shoes, headpiece, and flowers
should also fit the theme you have chosen. Your dress will have
to be ordered in advance, usually six months. If you do buy a
wedding dress already in stock, alterations will be
needed for it to fit exactly as you want.
You could set your wedding date as February 14
and choose a Valentine Day theme with roses. Whatever theme you
choose should also be reflected in the flowers you choose to carry and for
decoration.
Most brides opt for a traditional ceremony.
Others choose different themes such as a beach theme with
the wedding held outdoors near a sandy beach. You can write the
words for your ceremony which will add to the beauty of your
theme or you can use traditional vows.
Your reception should carry the theme of your
wedding forward. The place where the reception is to be held
should be decorated according to the theme you have chosen.
Your table decorations and wedding favors should be coordinated
to the theme you have chosen. You may also want to include
music and food that is relevant to your theme.
Themes can be carried through to the honeymoon.
If you use a beach theme, you may be going to a beach resort
for your honeymoon. If you are planning to have your honeymoon
at a later date and will spend the evening or weekend at a
hotel, you can decorate the room with your theme to extend the
memories of your special day.
The most important aspect of a themed wedding
is making sure you can coordinate all the functions of your
wedding with the theme you choose. Make it a special day for
you and your groom to remember always.
