When trying to decide on
the type of wedding you want, you will need to
consider the theme of your wedding. The theme may also
depend on the season.
Your theme may be based on ethnic, regional, or
seasonal factors. You may want to incorporate one or more of
these factors into the theme of your wedding. Each region of
the United States has its own customs and will offer
inspiration for a theme for your wedding. The Southern regions
of the United States offer many traditions. Weddings are a time
when families and friends are reunited. Many southern weddings
still follow the traditions of the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries. If you live in the Southwest, you will have Spanish,
Mexican, and Native American traditions and foods to spice up
your celebration. The themes in other areas of the country
reflect the area in which the couple lives.
You will want to consider the season of the
year in which you have planned your wedding. The weather will
have an impact on your wedding.
Spring Weddings: Spring
weddings usually take place in March, April, or May. Depending
on the area you live in, the weather may have a great impact on
your wedding. It could be rain or snow in some regions and
often windy. Flowers will be blooming in April but May could be
the month with the best weather.
Summer Weddings: The most
popular month for weddings is June. The month of June is named
after the Roman goddess Juno. She is the goddess
of women and marriage and protects those who
are married in her month. The weather of June is often
much better and flowers are generally in full bloom.
If you plan to marry in June, you will need to
make your plans well in advance. Many couples pick this month
and you may not be able to get the locations you want for your
reception or the hotel you have chosen for your out-of-town
guests. Florists, caterers, and musicians and officiates are
usually booked. If you have friends who become engaged at the
same time you did, you will want to check their wedding dates.
You do not want to have any conflicts especially if you have
the same friends who may be attendants at your wedding.
For a summer wedding, July and August are good
months. The days are long, but you have a problem with
humidity in some areas. If you have guests coming from other
states, this may be a good time for the wedding. They will
probably be able to take the time from work and if they have
children, school will be out.
The problem with a summer month such as July
and August is that people make their vacation plans in advance.
You need to send your invitations well in advance so that
people are aware of your wedding date and can plan
accordingly.
Fall Weddings: Getting married
in the fall, September or October, has its advantages. The
weather is mild. Summer travel is at an end. Hotels will have
more rooms. Honeymoon destinations will be less crowded.
Winter Weddings: Some couples
prefer winter weddings. Themes can be created around winter
holidays. Winter actually begins in December but the weather in
most areas make it seem like winter in November. There are not
many weddings held in November. Everyone is gearing up for
Thanksgiving and Christmas. Florists, caterers, and musicians
are usually not very busy until after Thanksgiving. Hotels and
some restaurants are usually decorated for the season and this
may save you money on decorations.
This is also a good time for a wedding because
family and friends usually get together for the Thanksgiving or
Christmas holiday. Many travel from other states and if the
wedding coincides with one of these holidays, you may have more
of them attending your wedding.
January and February are also slow months for
weddings and for travel. You will probably be able to reserve
the place for your reception, the hotel, and book the service providers with ease.
Because these are slow months for a lot of service
providers, you may be able to save money in your
budget.
The exception to slow in February is
Valentine's Day. It is a romantic occasion and a popular day
for weddings. You will need to book at a minimum six months in
advance for a wedding on this date.
You should set the date for your wedding as
soon as you can. Most places will need to be reserved at least
six months in advance. Informal or small weddings should be
reserved at least three months in advance if you do not need a
large room.
Do not forget to discuss your plans with your
groom. Carefully consider the options you have for your wedding
day and plan accordingly. You will be glad you did.
